I'm trying to close out my STS-107/Columbia archive to CDs and I ran
into a couple of problems with getting the whole CAIB report. The CAIB website which was supposed to be taken down on 2/1/2004 is still up, and http://www.caib.us/news/report/volume5/default.html lets me download the CAIB Report Volume 5, Book 1, Part 4. The part04.pdf file is 116,917,489 bytes long, consists of 212 pages and is titled: "Volume V, Appendix G.4, Group 1 Matrix Brief on Maintenance, Material and Management". So far so good. The report is also available from the NASA history website at http://history.nasa.gov/columbia/CAIB_reportindex.html Vol 5, Book 1, Part 4 from that page downloads as part04.pdf and is 22,093,824 bytes. The size difference is significant, but more importantly this 22 MB file fails to open in Acrobat 6. Acrobat says the file is damaged, attempts to repair it, and then gives up saying the file could not be repaired. From the same NASA history page, Volume 2, Part 00a says on page 5 that Volume 5, Appendix G.4 is titled "Aero/Aerothermal/Thermal/Structures Team Final Report, Aug 6, 2003". Does "Aero/Aerothermal/Thermal/Structures Team Final Report, Aug 6, 2003" equal "Group 1 Matrix Brief on Maintenance, Material and Management"? Is this a simple mistake or is the _real_ part4 of Volume 5 missing? -- bp Proud Member of the Human O-Ring Society Since 2003 |
