John Young

Interesting to hear he is finally retiring. I am not usually into the
celebrity thing, but he was the most interesting person I have ever met ,
well sort of , I went to a lecture he gave at Deakin University in Geelong,
( where's that you ask? - small town near Melbourne in australia) about 20
years ago. I think he was doing some publicity work for Ford which is
nearby. He gave a really interesting account of his missions. I even got
to ask him a question about whether he thought Apollo 10 made sense. It
always seemed to me a bit dumb to take 99% of the risk to stop 10 miles
away. But he convinced me otherwise. His dead pan humour came to the fore
when someone asked him if walking on the moon changed him in anyway. He
looked in silence for a few seconds and said nah, I've always been like
this!
As one of 4 billion people on the world , it felt a priveledge to talk to
one of only 12 men who have walked on another world.
