Headquarters, Washington July 27, 2004 (Phone: 202/358-4769) Kelly Humphries Johnson Space Center, Houston (Phone: 281/483-5111) RELEASE: C04-o NASA EXERCISES LOCKHEED MARTIN MISSION SUPPORT CONTRACT OPTION NASA has exercised a $178.5 million, two-year contract option with Lockheed Martin Space Operations of Houston for Space Shuttle and International Space Station mission operations support work. This will be the third option period of the contract known as the Mission Support Operations Contract (MSOC). The MSOC is a cost-plus-award-fee contract. Under the MSOC, Lockheed Martin and its subcontractors perform space operations and data services support work for Space Shuttle missions and International Space Station expeditions. MSOC provides mission operations and planning ground systems for the Mission Control Center at NASA's Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, the Houston Support Room/Backup Command and Control Center in Russia and an Integrated Planning System. In addition, ground systems services are provided for JSC's Emergency Operations Center, the Electronic System Test Laboratory and Space Communications Integration. Work covered under the option will begin in October 2004 and continue through September 2006. The option value is $178,542,564, bringing the total contract value to $246,298,890.
