If you have an image of Machholz taken on the night of 2005 Jan 08/09,
can you post the image details together with a statement as to whether or not you picked up the tail? Post the date+time, exposure time, ISO value (if applicable), focal length and focal ratio. Additional information would be the sky clarity. Here's mine: 2005/01/08, 18h42m UT, 120s, ISO1600, 200mm, f/5.6, thin veiled cloud, tail faint but visible. -- Pete http://www.digitalsky.org.uk Global Projects - http://www.globalobservers.net |

Pete, Here's mine: 2005/01/08, 18h42m UT, 120s, ISO1600, 200mm, f/5.6, thin veiled cloud, tail faint but visible. I spent probably close to an hour last night searching for the tail using a variety of exposures but no luck. My CCD effort from last night is available here with complete details: http://www.astrovox.gr/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=374 .... a snmall correction to the imaging details involves the Luminance layer (5 integrations and not 10) used for the final image. My test image from four days earlier for comparison purposes is available at http://www.perseus.gr/Astro-Comets-2004-Q2-Machholz.htm . Anthony. |

The sky was hazy, 5/10. Both tails were visible, in the image and in 8x50 binoculars. _________________________________________________ Chris L Peterson Cloudbait Observatory http://www.cloudbait.com |

Oops, sorry, that was actually the night of the 7/8 for me. I didn't image on
the 8/9, although I did see some tail visually with the binoculars. It looked about the same as the night before, when I got the image. _________________________________________________ Chris L Peterson Cloudbait Observatory http://www.cloudbait.com |
