Machholz is laughing at the North East

The most dismal, grey, sullen weather has permiated
the North East, depriving some of us of a magnificent
view of that comet and the Pleiades! 2005 isn't
a banner year for eclipses, conjunctions, etc,
so I was hoping for some clear weather.

It's all my fault. I recently got a couple of chipped achromats and hot
glued them into a toilet paper tube. Sorry.

For the forseeable future the fine 'scope that you have built would be
as good in the mid-Atlantic region as any that money can buy.

I've spent the entire evening poring over maps and checking
wunderground.com, looking for a place I could reach in a drive of 12
hours or less that would let me get a photo of Machholz and the
Pleiades on Friday evening. No joy.

You are not alone. I'm in So. Cal and have had the same weather. When it
breaks it is just for a short time and I have to grab some binocs and
see what I can. I'm guessing that imaging Machholz is out for us as well
as the forecast calls for more rain this weekend and in through next
week as well.

There is a rumour that Friday night might be partly clear.
I'll put the scope out just before dark and hope.
