Default Iapetus ridge

Some RAW images of Iapetus from Cassini

Anyone care to venture as to what this structure is?

Where the two halves of the mould did not quite fit together?

'As any fule no', this is the seam. The side towards us is shiny,
indicating that the bowler is bowling an inswinger to a RH batsman.

Surely the moon is rough enough for it to reverse?

Just playing with the image - whilst it's intriguing if it is a mountain
range - could it be an artifact caused by an edge detection of an
earlier image added in?

I can't seem to find the feature on any of the other raw images of
Iapetus, which suggests that it may well be some sort of imaging
artefact.

I can

(line wrapping is almost certain to break the URL)

Looks to me like the ridge from the original image can be found at the
bottom of this image; compare the pattern of craters on the ridge
itself. This image also suggests that the ridge is part of a larger chain.

What a fascinating moon!

Stitching.

Specifically, a scar resulting from the shortage of trained plastic surgeons
that early in the solar system's history.
