Again the media has excluded any science stories such as the Mars Rovers and
Cassini as major news events of 2004. Only the election and human suffering
or tragedy
top the ranks. Disgusting!!

The election and human suffering are big news -- both represent
tragedies for humanity.

I would suggest, however, that you turn off ABC/CBS/CNN/FOX/NBC and
tune into The News Hour with Jim Lehrer. They did an excellent piece
the other day with the President of the American Association for the
Advancement of Science covering the top science discoveries -- and
questions -- of 2004.

Some years ago on that program (McNeil might have been there) they highlighted
a scientific meeting on Global Warming by inviting representatives from both
sides. Shortly after the discussion started one of the guests pointed out that
the other guest represented an extreem pointed of view that nobody else agreed
with because the vote at the end of the meeting was 99 to 1.
So much for two points of view. Since then I wonder how often this
happens

Yeah but the bad news gets ratings because people watch that stuff most.
The science stuff they couldn't care less about. It's human nature for
people to watch tragedies, they can't keep their eyes off it.

Example, the WTC planes crashes. How many of times has the TV shown
those crashes since they occured? THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS.

Think of the Challenger accident back in 1986, the day it happened
they repeated the ET exposion OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again.

Think of the poor folks in Asia with the tsunami. We've seen the all
the footage a couple thousand times already.

We're lucky Cassini is getting any press really.
