One way to tie in Christmas with astronomy is through the fact that it is
the birthday of Isaac Newton, famous astronomical theorist and Mint spy. A HREF="http://journals.aol.com/virginiaz/DreamingofLeonardo"http://journal s.aol.com/virginiaz/DreamingofLeonardo/A Yes, Newton could be peppery. Peppery indeed. He was known to have an almost psychotic temper. But he could take it out on the culprits he caught, once he became spy for the mint. Did he have other flavors? Why yes! He of course had a flavor for those with a taste for physics. Laying down his laws of motion and gravitation left some wondering, what is left to be discovered? He had a flavor for those with a taste for alchemy. He became a master the occult art; he tested all the old formulas. He wrote more books on alchemy that he did on physics. He had a flavor for those with a taste for mathematics. He perfected his methods of infinitesimals, and the Calculus was born. He had a flavor for those with a taste for Bible prophesy. He spent 50 years studying the scriptures, trying to decipher the "Bible Code". He finally arrived at a date for the end of the world, but it was lost for hundreds of years, only recently coming to light. Yes Virginia, Newton was truly a man for all tastes, a man of all flavors! Not at all just mint! Double-A |

Not at all just mint! Double-A no doubt. my grandmother, who lived on a gorgeous lay of grounds, landscaped by Auburn University architects, ca 1955, kept a small vegetable garden, English style, brick bordered (next to where we set up the croquet court in summer). in this garden, which were long lanes, with brick walkways between, rather like bowling alleys, 3 or 4 lanes, as i recall, narrow, say 5 feet wide, perhaps 50 feet long, she planted, among other delicacies, spearmint. one of my most cherished of all memories, sensual experiencs, in this life. fresh-brewed tea, chilled, iced, with a sprig of mint, in a waterford, crystal-cut tall glass. sitting on an upstairs dining porch, overlooking the small flag-stoned goldfish pond, with its fountain splish-splashing sounds. that is heaven. _______ Blog, or dog?
