Default Why don't mfgs/retailers pool money for TV ads?

I know it sounds a bit outlandish, but what if
they did this? Television is the most effective
way to attract customers, hence it's cost.
But even advertising at key times on national networks
would be affordable for a pool. They could simply
use the ads to briefly introduce the idea of
amateur astronomy as a hobby and then say, "check
out your local telescope specialty store for more
information, the staff would be glad to help you."
Reasoning being that too many people if they think
of telescopes at all don't know there are things like
specialty telescope stores so they head to Walmart
or Costco. Advertising only in specialty mags is
"preaching to the choir."
