I find them utterly ridiculous.
Namely Orion. He had orion with his back to us, looking left, carrying a club, and a sheepskin or some such thing over his right shoulder. He had his belt backwards and his dagger on his back? I have seen other interpretations of the right arc of stars being a shield, and he facing us looking to our right, with the dagger on his front. Much better, but no cigar. Orion is a "hunter". Not a barbarian. Not a warrior. He is a "hunter. Here is the most logical and historically accurate interpretation of Orion. First the ancient greek hunters used either a sling or a bow. (slings were a peasants weapon because they were cheap). So obviously the long arc of stars is a bow. Second, the dagger was worn on the front, not the back. There is no club (barbarian weapon). There is no sword (warrior). The winter sky is laid out quite nicely if you interpret it in the most logical manner. (north hemisphere view) Orion is being trailed by his dogs; He is looking to our right, and his bow is up. He is aiming his bow towards taurus the bull, who is chasing the 7 sisters. (Orion is going to take out the bull before he runs over the sisters.) This is all subjective, but I think is the most logical. mes. |
