Default Extra Galactic search ?

In case we are alone in our galaxy, in could
be a good idea to search for life in nearby galaxies.
A clear candidate is the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), which
is close by and a spiral galaxy even larger than our own.

Anyone know of serious listening attemps towards M31 ?
Any plans for extra-galactic search ?

Thx. Martin.
