The Senate is on the verge of killing the suborbital passenger
business:

"Those one-time boosters say the compromise version that emerged Thursday
from a House-Senate "preconference" would actually kill off private
spaceflight by holding the industry to an unmeetable safety standard for
passengers and crew members."

Control freaks?

Of course, I'm not voicing the obvious ultra-cynical conclusion---I'm trying
to cut down.

With this ng, you should probably make sure everyone knows whether you're
joking or not.

I was joking
It is pecular the way some people oppose space travel though. Everytime someone
rants and raves about how the money could be spent elsewhere other than in
space travel, I wonder what gets them so worked up about spending such a small
slice of the government's pie on space. I don't believe for a moment that their
are aliens among us, but after all of this, I wonder why there is a
constituence to keep us out of space. When all the probably explainations are
ruled out, that leaves only the improbable. I wonder sometimes if the space
critics really are robots controlled by aliens. (jokingly of course)
