Hi all
A friend is trying to make a cable for a SkySensor 2000PC and is having trouble making it work. We've checked the wiring out and it seems to be perfect. Having double, tripel checked it we've checked it again to be sure, it looks perfect. He's got the SkySensor in LX2000 Emulation mode. When the cable is plugged in, it doesn't do anything. Does anyone have any experience with these cables. Specifically for the SkySensor 2000PC. I've already made a few for my Meade LX90, which work fine. I'm looking for some foolproof way of testing that a. The cable is correct and b. The SkySensor is working properly. Regards Colin Dawson www.cjdawson.com Oh yeah, We've got the pin outs of the cable, which make this all the more confusing. |

I'm looking for some foolproof way of testing that I suggest you to try to establish a connection with Hyperterminal, if you have a PC under Windows. Set the SS2K in Skysensor 2000 mode, 9600 bauds. Set the COM port of the PC with 9600 bauds, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity (be sure that the COM port in opened in the bios). Open a Hyperterminal session and try to connect by typing 'SATEL 1'. You should receive a response '[0/1:3] done: 'SATEL' (Satel #1)' or something like that. If you type anything, you should receive an 'Unknown command' response. -- Norbert. That command is new, so I'll pass is on. I know that with the Meade AutoStar, when I power on it sends a single X via it's RS232, which is useful for testing. Does the SkySensor do anything like that? I'm still not convinced that the cable has been made up properly, but don't have any idea of how to be sure (I'm in the UK and the cable is in Australia) The SkySensor end of the cable is a moulded unit, so I can't be sure that the right cable is wired correctly. OK, I suggest you to look at the archives of the Yahoo list about SS2K, or to subscribe to the group and ask your question . I'm quite sure you'll find somebody here who knows the wiring of the cable. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ss2k/messages -- Norbert. Is your PC software confirming that the link has been established? There is a known bug in some of the earlier ss2k software versions which means that you sometimes have to try to connect many times before a successful connection is made. (I have software v2.04 which seems to behave ok) You could try trawling the archives of the ss2k Yahoo group for more information. Robin |
