Default Vesta

Just curious, has anyone managed to see the asteroid Vesta since I know it's
approaching its closest point to the Earth in the next few days.....

Thanks for the heads-up. If the weather clears I'll go out and have a
look, Vesta and Uranus ought both to be reasonably visible. If only I
could find somewhere with neither a house, nor bright street lights,
nor a dreadful reputation for muggings, on the south horizon ...

Hi:

With all the storms we've been havin' down here in Possum Swamp, I haven't seen
Vesta this time around, but she is usually very easy, being a breeze in
binoculars or a finderscope.

Thanks for the heads-up! It's supposed to be clear tonight, and I
haven't yet tried going after asteroids with my ETX-125. I just
checked, and Vesta is #4 on Autostar's list.

I looked at Vesta this Saturday evening. Very, very easy to see,
even in binoculars. Another thing to look at (and I'd say this
one is even more interesing) is the asteroid Toutatis - I checked
it too - this one was around mag.12, but is fun to watch, because
it moves so fast. Even now, before the closest approach, 30 minutes
showed definite movement. I kept the scope on it for about one
hour, just to watch the show.

Regards,

- Alex
