NASA Debates Display of Columbia Debris
I hope they do. This might facilitate the display of Apolo one and Challenger debris too. What the hell for? To satisfy ghoulish interest, and horrify average citizens away from any rational interest in space? |

No as part of a respectful monument. Not like challenger and apollo one where
nasa tried to forget it happened. Question, what did the Soviets do with the remains of Soyuz 1...were they burried by the Kremlin Wall along with Komarov's remains? And what of Soyuz 11? That landed pretty much intact. Mind you I'd rather not see such things on display... -A.L. |

Bob,
I have 32 photos of Apollo 1 and they will be on the web soon enough. Many are never before seen photos and I would hope after you see them you might change your mind. Three brave men died violent deaths (that's what they call them on some death certificates nowadays). With Challenger, I have mixed feelings. There is a lot that could be displayed that would not be directly crew related. I'd like to see sonar contacts 131 and 712 (the two SRB pieces at the burnthrough). I'd like to see the aft RCS engines, and I'd like to see the SSME's. There is not a whole lot that I would want to see with regard to the crew compartment. The middeck seats for instance, placed next to the flight deck MS seats and the CDR and PLT seats would probably upset most people. You might get a better understanding of what happened to the crew; one that you might not really want to have. OTOH, maybe that shock would translate into a willingness to pay for better escape systems and improving the crashworthiness of future space vehicles if not for the current fleet as well. -- Daniel Mount Charleston, not Charleston, SC "Hallerb" wrote in message ...
