Default An old friend...

I'm sure these things come around faster and faster. Scorpio was
rising as I went to bed last night!

Just for fun, I turned the scope and camera onto M57 last night and
captured this widefield shot. First colour image I've made of this
object (ever). Quite wonderful to see that little blue ring on the
frame.

Not much processing done yet - just a few brightness adjustments.
Summer's on it's way.

Brilliant - managed to avoid any reference to "Lord of the Rings" -
doh!

Image details:

120s @ ISO800, Canon 10D at prime focus, Vixen FL-102s refractor.
Some light pollution. Seeing 7/10, transparency 7/10.

That looks smashing.

You know, it looks more impressive as a small object against the night sky
than a lot of the glossy photos taken by big telescopes. It looks more real,
like you could almost point to it in the sky.

I like it a lot :O)

It's age that does it! I can't believe the position of Orion at the moment,
only feels like five minutes since it was popping over the horizon last
year, now its half gone by 2300hrs.

Excellent picture, the blue ring stands out so well for the size of it.

Yes, and plenty of rain soaked days to get some computer work done.

Peter,

Your image of M57 is just beautiful, and except for the color, it's
exactly as it looks in my 6" APO. BUT PLEASE...........it's Scorpius,
not Scorpio.......:-)

Old habits Richard. When I started out in astronomy, a few years
back, I remember reading some of the star names and making up my own
pronounciations for them - lazy reading I guess.

Procyon is still pro-cee-con to me ;-)
