Default Orion S. plosels and motors

My son has recently purchased an 8" Orion reflector. The eyepieces supplied
were upgraded to the super plosels. As they do not actually say super
plosels on the eyepiece body, is there any easy way to visually identify
them as such.
Also we are having problems getting the motors to operate consistently.
Sometimes the Dec will work one way but not the other and the same for the
RA. Having tried the motors with the telescope and weight not attatched, and
finding both to be fully functional, might I be correct in assuming that an
imbalanced 'scope may affect this aspect of operation. Note that we do
balance the 'scope prior to use.
