Default Meade ETX125 help needed

I have recently purchased a Meade ETX125 and I am having problems with the
Autostar controller. In Manual mode using the arrow keys, it will only move
along the vertical. When I try and move either left OR right it just makes a
horrible whinning noise. Can anyone help please?

Have you set the clamp for that axis? Will it slew in that axis for a goto?

Hi
Yes I have set the clamp for that axis. Have not tried it on a goto setting
because I am still in the process on setting it up in daylight. I was doing
the telescope training part of the setup.

Well, the clamp being set rules out the easy-to-fix possibility. My thought
on checking goto was the electronics, ie if the goto worked but not manual
slewing, the manual slewing would not be sending the correct pulses to the
motors. But after thinking about it, that is not very likely...

What's the estimated time for return, service and return back to you?

I have an ETX105, I had a similar problem, except that in my case I could slew left/right but
not up/down (also, no whinning noise, just silence). I drove back to the store, they
immediately replaced it with another 105, no questions asked. It was a defect, the fixed it by
replacing th whole unit, excellent service. I suggest you try the same with your dealer.
