Meade LXD55 GoTo handset question

I recently bought my first telescope (Meade LXD55). I find that the GOTO
handset screen can only be read if I tilt the handset about 60 degrees
towards the ground. Otherwise all the scrolling letters seem to merge into
one (static letters are fine). Can anyone tell me if this is normal or
whether I should report it as a fault?
