Default Mars and the lost dog...

Ha - waited up for Mars and it clouded over. I did manage to get a
few pictures though. Had about 10mins to try out some rapid
processing this morning before work. I'll try and eek some more out
of the images this evening. Image scale is improving.

Oly C-2100uz digicam, Vixen FL-102 f9 refractor, 20mm Lanthanum
eyepiece. Various short (1/8s) exposures hand stacked. Seeing poor -
loads of boiling and slow moving, high altitude cloud.

And now the lost dog...

Can you help this miserable sod find it? All together now, "It's..."

I took my first look at Mars during this apparition last night - and I was
very impressed. I've never spent much time with the Red Planet before,
usually being put off by its low altitude, boiling conditions etc. But I
managed to get a lot of detail in a C9.25 (and one that's not yet collimated
on the sweet spot). Plenty of dark markings, which resolved into distinct
shapes at best seeing and with a brilliant white polar cap. A 10mm Radian
proved the best eyepiece, and various filters inc blue, orange and red added
something. Having said that the warm colour of the planet with no filters
was also very good.

Nice, Pete, but who's the miserable-looking sod that I just want to
shout "Its behind you!" to?

Best,
Stephen

That's the one!

I've now had a chance to process Mars a bit. You can see my latest
efforts via the front page of my website (you can't miss it!).

You know who the miserable sod is don't you? It's Geoff Smith!

Heck, Peter, that is brilliant! I must get a camera with "movie" mode!

Ah. That's all. Just "Ah".

Best,
Stephen
