My 3.2mp Olympus recently suffered some deacceleration trauma and is no
more. I am in the market for a new camera, and wanted to get some feedback here. I never used my cam in 3.2 mode, so a 2mp cam would probably be fine. Can anyone recommend a 2mp cam? The reason I ask here? I figure if I am going to buy a new cam, maybe I could consider mounting it to my scope, so does anyone own a 2mp ish cam that they have found mounts to their scope well? BV. |

One 2 mp camera that is worth considering is the Canon A60. It has full manual
controls. I also had a Olympus 3.2 megapixel camera that suffered a serious decelleration trama. Its pretty amazing how cheap the lens assembly is, plastic thats about "this" thick. But I chose to upgrade to the Nikon Coolpix 4500, these are pretty handy with long exposure capabilities and a unique swivel mount and a not extending lens that makes them ideal for "digiscoping." Inquiring minds want all the dirt! ^_^ The Olympus c3020 zoom has a lens that extends out of the camera when it is turned on. I was letting my four year old take a picture, as I often do...but supervised. This time, I got called away/dsitracted and forgot I had just handed it to him. He dropped it. My fault. Stupid to hand it to him. Anyway, the extending lens broke off. The lens is intact but no longer attached to the cam. My sis-in-law had the same damage to hers and it was $150 to look at it and $50 to fix it. For that $200, I can get a new cam. Then of course I have this perfectly good, lens-less cam sitting around doing nothing. I wonder if it could be used on my scope somehow? BV. |

BV. you *might* be able to use the lensless camera the way I did with my CP4500 .. I removed the lens when I decided to use the camera only for astro . That way it's like a regular astro CCD , works at prime focus . There are several catches here. One is that the little motors that move the zoom, focus and iris need to remain attached , or else the camera software will signal some error and halt (not allow you to take any pics) . The camera also needs to have manual modes , so that you can set the exposure time manually . best regards, matt tudor |

I gave this a half hearted try with my Olympus C-3000 but for whatever reason, the camera just did not function. It fired up alright but it would not take a photo. I think some of the electro-mechanicals were damaged during the entire process of the impact and removing the lens. Curious how the Coolpix works at prime focus and whether you think it is worth doing.. Pictures??? jon |

Why not buy a more affordable unit (like the Kodaks?) with a higher megapixel count? -Rich |

I normally would take pics at about 1024x768, and 2mp was fine for that resolution. I figure save myself some bucks. If I won't use anything above 2 why buy one that does over 2? BV. |
