hmmm maybe Celestron can finally start offering their own ED range now?
Starting with a C4 ED R-GT ? Mario "Edward" wrote in message link.net... F/9, $999. This week, maybe. Ed T. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Orion_ED/message/2365 http://starizona.com/telescopes/show...No=9975&Show=1 |

The Orion web page says:
The "ED100" delivers images remarkably free of chromatic aberration, thanks to its fully multi-coated 100mm objective doublet. It's crafted with one element of FPL-53 extra-low dispersion "ED" optical glass from Japan. The 100mm aperture gives it 56% greater light grasp than our ED80. And the 900mm focal length (f/9.0) is ideal for visual planetary and lunar study and excels for imaging work as well. FPL-53? F/9 should make it a little easier than the faster competition. And the glass selection should (I think) make the steep curves unnecessary --- eliminating some of the problems Meade had with their apo line. Isn't that glass kind of expensive for this price range? Yikes! F/9? I'm thinking to myself ... "well, what's the point?"
The Skyquest 4.5" reflector is f/8... But it's on Orion's web site as of 8-9-04 10:00pm CDT. "Edward" wrote in message news ![]() F/9, $999. This week, maybe. Ed T. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Orion_ED/message/2365 http://starizona.com/telescopes/show...No=9975&Show=1 |

I doubt you'll see Orion's people crying about the price of glass sets and then turn around and charge $2800 for something they can sell for under $1000. -Rich |
