Default Bishop Effect

Tonight was the meeting of the Rosamond Community
Services District BOD's ( The Street lighting people ).

On their agenda tonight was the request for the Ok of new
street lighting for two projects. As they talked about the
lighting, Director Landsgaard said " As Mr. Bishop points
out, we also need to think about the controling of light
pollution "

Make a long story short, they tabled the OK, instead asking
for tech drawings of the lights the developer wants to put in
and also to ask the power company as to what kinds of lights and
light poles they have and to set a policy as to what kind of
lights and poles they want to be used around the Rosamond
District. I was able to tell them where a good sample was in town
of good lighting and I also gave them the darksky web site address
too.

Now if it wasn't for me and my actions, they would have just
rubber stamped the lighting. One project wants a total of 19
lights, 10 in the 16,000 lumani(sp?) and 9 in the 9,5000 lumni
range.

Now they are asking for more details from the project builders
and from the power company too.

Well, I have one good way to show the the bad side of lighting, the
RCSD moved last week into a new fancy building, and yes, it's own
parking lot lights are good full cutoff ( and I made sure to make a
GOOD commit on them ) and when they leave the building, all they need
to do is stop outside the door and face south to see the Palmdale /
Lancaster light dome, AND to see the Rosamond Lribery which has BAD
lighting as it not only lights up the ground, but also the sky too.

And with me sitting right in the front row of seating, they couldn't
but help remembering what I've been saying.
