Any views on the seben 6" reflector they seem to be selling well on E-Bay.
Should I buy one? or go for a smaller $" celestron.

Keep your money in your pocket. Find your local astronomy club and go on a few
outings with them, see whats up, see what a good scope can do.

Ebay 6 inchers = unacceptable quality.

Don't buy anything off ebay, really. You can buy an 6" or 8" dobsonian
reflector from Orion, Celestron or Hardin Optical. All are good, you'll
get a warranty, good service and help and much better quality.

These ebay scopes are an outstanding value when it comes to wasting money.
They are guaranteed to give you next to nothing for your purchase price.

Seriously, ignore them. If you were buying tools to work on your car and you
saw a set of soft plastic wrenches for a good price on ebay, you wouldn't
buy them no matter how good the price was. These scopes have the same value
for astronomy as soft toy wrenches do for doing real work.

Visit http://skyandtelescope.com/resources/organizations/ and you can find a
local astro club. Go to one of their public nights. You'll get to look
through a bunch of scopes. You'll learn what you like and don't like. And
you are very likely to find a great deal from someone who wants to upgrade.

If you have to ask, the answer is a firm, unconditional,
unqualified NO.

Go to a star party. Visit a telescope store and see what
real telescopes look like.

The 6" f/10 scope is actually an f/5 (look at the length
of the tube) with a Barlow in the focuser. Avoid.

Hi:

And that is being CHARITABLE! These silly scopes are pretty much useless for
astronomy. They do make OK boat anchors... ;-)

Home to me is a Meade 4500 (8 years) and LX10 (6 years).
Couldn't talk a neighbor out of one of those eBay 6'ers.....
Dam thing outperforms the 4500, but not (of course) the LX10,
and yes the 4500 is aligned g, even has a new primary.
Guess they're not ALL bad for $130 inc s/h.
