Come on group, help me out with some advice. I ordered a Konus 8" newt with
telescopes.com out of Minnesota about 1 1/2 months ago. Naturally it was
backordered but the website says that backorders ship within 7-10 days. I
wouldn't be posting this if I hadn't received it yet. I've sent them and
Konus a couple e-mails regarding ship date of this product but haven't had
any responses. I know that backorders are typical with scopes, but for
cryin' out loud we're not talking A/P or a custom truss-tube he-) Other
dealers have them in stock so what's the deal? What would you do in my
situation? Anyone ever dealt with this dealer? Thanks in advance for any
helpful replies.

They have an 800 number on their website, and several other numbers, so why
not give them a call? I think phone calls are a far more effective way to
clear up such problems, and a far easier way to insure you get answers to
all your questions.

The first thing I always do when I think about ordering from an on-line firm
is check out their ratings and read them carefully. Many times, this simple
precaution will save many hours and days of frustration.

Personally, I don't tolerate backorders or really anything else for that
matter when it comes to something expensive, like a telescope. Have you
tried calling them on the phone? That alone can work wonders sometimes,
especially if you are firm. I had to do that recently with a scope dealer
myself. They were giving me the backorder line and I told them to forget
it.

Bottom line, if it was me having these difficulties, I'd first call and find
out what was going on. If it can't be satisfactorily resolved, cancel the
order and go with someone who guarantees shipment within a week.

I have never dealt with them but am aware that this is not www.telescope.com
(Orion). Going to the website www.telescopes.com and scrolling down, my
eyes are drawn to a TASCO reflector. Hmmmm. . . .

I have never dealt with them but am aware that this is not www.telescope.com
(Orion). Going to the website www.telescopes.com and scrolling down, my

I'd tell them I cancelled my order and inform my credit card company in case
they try and charge you, then order from Orion, Anacortes or Astronomics,
all very reliable, good prices and easy to deal with.
