Default Cleaning eyepieces

I need your help quickly! I borrowed a friends eyepiece that he said
was real good. After using it for a few nights, I noticed that there
were some smudges and dust on it. Not wanting to get in trouble with
my friend, I brought it to the lab and sonicated it. What I didn't
know was that it wasn't airtight!!

How do I empty the eyepiece of soapy water now?

Funny but it might be a real situation... I once put an ortho through the
washer accidentally.

And then for you astromarters, here is the guy who tried to take his Panoptic

HeeHee. Reminds me of my days doing musical instrument repair. Somebody
would take their saxophone apart to clean it, and then not be able to put it
back together. We would spot them as they got out of the car: sax case in 1
hand, brown paper bag (containing the parts) in the other. Somebody at the
front of the store would call out "Saxophone in a bag!"

It happened often enough that we had a standardized price for putting it
back together.

Clear Skies,
Craig in Tampa

Take it apart, clean very gently with alcohol, let dry,
put it back together correctly. Then, keep it for yourself
and buy him a new eyepiece of better quality and give it
to him and say - That eyepiece was junk, I think you should
have a better quality one.

Best advice of the bunch. Second best - research before doing. I was just
reading - again - how to clean eyepieces properly.
