any chance? I've already got the mount. The chance has come up to buy
the OTA quite cheaply, is the EQ2/3 'man' enough for visual work with this scope? Gaz |

I don't know for sure, but my 125mm f/5 refractor came on an EQ-3 mount, and
it was good enough for visual work. -- Sincerely, --- Dave ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A man is a god in ruins. --- Duke Ellington ---------------------------------------------------------------------- "Gaz" wrote in message m... any chance? I'm under the impression that the EQ2 and the EQ3 are distinctly different. The EQ3 is the same as the Orion AstroView and the EQ4 is the same as the Orion SkyView Pro. From what I gather, the primary difference between those two is the use of a Dovetail on the EQ4, otherwise they are basically the same mount. The EQ1 and the EQ2 are the two lighter duty models. If you have an EQ3, then I think you'll be fine, if you have an EQ2, you might be pushing it. Stephen Paul |

![]() any chance? I've already got the mount. The chance has come up to buy the OTA quite cheaply, is the EQ2/3 'man' enough for visual work with this scope? Gaz Which mount do you have, the EQ-2 or the EQ-3, they are quite different in capacity and design? I believe that the EQ-3 is a clone of the Vixen Super Polaris mount. I have an EQ-3 and I believe it would be sufficient for an 150mm F5 refractor, especially given that one would not be doing high power work with such a scope. But I think the EQ-2 would not handle it. But more importantly, I hope you are ready for the various issues that are associated with a 150mm F5 refractor. False color is going to be .... Well, let me just say that my wife would like it, she buys anything that is purple. jon |

The EQ2 will not handle this load. Not even the old version with wooden
tripod. It's not impossible that the EQ3 can do it, but don't be disappointed if you need to upgrade to the EQ5 or the Orion Skyview Pro. Best regards, Anders H. (Gaz) wrote in m: any chance? I have one of these scopes, I brought an AZ3 as a temporary mount at the
time I brought the OTA. This telescope is a great visual scope. But I have tried it on friend's EQ3 and a friends EQ5 mounts, the EQ3 did not handle it at all, the EQ5 did, quite well too, so I would guess an EQ4 would just. The EQ3 vibrations where not good but livable with, but I had to continually re balance the tube by sliding it up and down in the rings which became very annoying when changing the height in the sky I was viewing at, tracking was very poor as far as I could tell because I was continually stopping to re-balance the tube. The EQ5 was good, vibrations settled down in 3 to 5 seconds and I did not have to readjust the balance. Tracking was good. The EQ4 I haven't tried but my guess it would handle it preform close to the EQ5. But for visual use I decided to stay with a Altz mount I still have mine on a AZ3 mount which handles the tube allot better than a EQ3 but I have to balance the tube right and I admit the zenith is a challenge. I'm waiting for my UniStar mount (currently on route to me). Buy the way nice telescope, very good on the moon, when masked down to 100mm good on planets but on deep sky excellent.
