How many telescopes do you keep ?
After years of telescopitis (going through various scopes designs) I am settling down. Would you consider three reflectors (beside a Vixen 115/f5.3 APO to cover the base) a sinful luxury ? The plan was for a 8"f7.5 (60" f.l.) lightweight wooden Dob as a planetary (+travel) scope, (already half-way made) and for a 16" f4.8 (77" f.l.) modern quick assembly Al/carbon design Dob as DSO killer (some money already spent in this direction). Now the situation changed by acquisition of another optics, a 12.5" f 5.8 (72" f.l.) mirror. All above is superior optics which potentially can wait on the shelf like a vine bottle in the cellar. My location has excellent seeing and for now I am not plagued with any problems like moving heavier objects or cataracts or astigmatism ;-) Also, I don't have anything like a weekend home to find an excuse in keeping the scopes at different locations. My preferences are predominantly visual observing but may expand in CCD astrophotography later. Do you see an unnecessary doubling somewhere ? Shall I keep all of them ? Have you made a move from a similar scope to another one in your past ? I anticipate finishing the 8" first and the 16" in the fall. David |
