Yesterday evening, Sep 17th, I invited my boss and his fam. for a look
a Mars through my telescope. After that, I showed them some other nice interesting sky objects, and when we looked at Albireo, the double star in Cygnus, a satellite came into view! I could not find it on heavens-above.com so I am asking the group if any one of you can tell me which satellite we have seen. My location: Coordinates: 12.1000° N, 68.9000° W Elevation: 30 meters (98 feet) Region: Netherland Antilles Time Zone: Universal Coordinated Time 4 (GMT - 4:00) The time we saw it: 21:15 at Albireo I hope you can tell me the name of the satellite! |

I hope you can tell me the name of the satellite! I think this was 80-98B. It is the last stage of a rocket that launched an Intelsat 23 years ago. |

SP Yes, I think it would be more useful if the previous poster gave you some info on finding your own answer, rather than just telling you the answer. It's a case of the old saying: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for one day. Teach him how to fish and you will feed him for a lifetime". There are many programs for tracking and identifying satellites. A quick google search will find them, but one that I found useful, easy to use and cheap was SatHunt: http://stephen.fathom.org/sathunt.html -- Larry Brash |
