![]() Today (Saturday, 1-31) I watched the sunset from San Diego. The horizon was quite clear, except for some tiny distant cumulus clouds that were seen silhouetted against the setting sun. At first we thought it was a ship's silhouette. It looked like giant sunspots. As we were discussing the setting sun, I remarked to the folks standing nearby to watch for the possibility of a Green Flash. Just as the sun sank down to a tiny "UFO" sitting atop the water, and then sunk some more, the sole remaining portion of the visible disk turned a brilliant green, then immediately disappeared. It did not "flash upwards". Other people saw it as well. I've watched many sunsets over the years, but that's only about the third time I've seen this. P.S.: There's a beachfront restaurant in San Diego, near this spot, called "The Green Flash". -- Robert Sheaffer - User name "Roberto" at debunker-dot-com Skeptical to the Max! I've also seen the green flash. Probably the best one was when I was
driving home from work up I-5 just north of the horse track and as I was climbing the hill, the flash came out just as the sun was disappearing from the horizon. I got to see about 20 seconds as my altitude climbed and the flash keep in view. That was the longest that I've seen it and I was probably the only person on the road that saw it that way.
