LIGO conspirators and silly Einsteinians are triumphing:
Ethan Siegel: "Merging Neutron Stars Deliver Deathblow To Dark Matter And Dark Energy Alternatives. [...] In Einstein's theory, the speed of gravity equals the speed of light, exactly, and at all times. But in many alternatives, that assumption gets tweaked. [...] But the fact that gamma rays and gravitational waves from the merging neutron star event GW170817 arrived within 1.7 seconds of one another means that the speed of gravity must equal the speed of light to better than 1 part in 10^15. As a result, a huge slew of alternatives to standard General Relativity with standard dark energy are ruled out. [...] The fact that the speed of light and the speed of gravity are equal to such high precision means that all theories that have this type of modification are highly constrained, and that most such models are largely ruled out. For dark matter, attempts to modify gravity get even worse.. [...] Modified gravity isn't dead yet, but many of its greatest hopes have just been dashed. Einstein, however, with his theory in its original, unmodified form, still survives." https://www.forbes.com/sites/startsw...-alternatives/ The triumph is premature. LIGO's "finding" that the speed of gravitational waves equals the speed of light delivers a deathblow to LIGO conspiracy, not to alternative theories. According to Arthur Eddington, Einstein's relativity provides no justification for assuming that gravitational waves travel at the speed of light: Arthur Eddington: "The statement that in the relativity theory gravitational waves are propagated with the speed of light has, I believe, been based entirely upon the foregoing investigation; but it will be seen that it is only true in a very conventional sense. If coordinates are chosen so as to satisfy a certain condition which has no very clear geometrical importance, the speed is that of light; if the coordinates are slightly different the speed is altogether different from that of light. The result stands or falls by the choice of coordinates and, so far as can be judged, the coordinates here used were purposely introduced in order to obtain the simplification which results from representing the propagation as occurring with the speed of light. The argument thus follows a vicious circle." The Mathematical Theory of Relativity, pp. 130-131 https://www.amazon.com/Mathematical-.../dp/0521091659 So what is the probability that the gravitational waves (if they exist) travel exactly at the speed of light? Answer: Zero. What is the probability that the gravitational waves (if they exist) travel at a speed different from the speed of light? Answer: Unity. That is, if LIGO conspirators had said that the speed of the gravitational waves was different from the speed of light, that would have sounded realistic. The claim that the gravitational waves travel exactly at the speed of light unequivocally proves that LIGO conspirators have fabricated their results. Pentcho Valev |

Nima Arkani-Hamed (06:09): "Almost all of us believe that spacetime doesn't really exist, spacetime is doomed and has to be replaced by some more primitive building blocks." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U47kyV4TMnE
But LIGO's ripples in spacetime do exist, like the Cheshire cat smile, and gloriously travel at the speed of light? Again: Nima Arkani-Hamed, do ripples in the nonexistent spacetime gloriously travel at the speed of light? Nima Arkani-Hamed feels uncomfortable answering this question: http://www.infonetworkmarketing.org/...anza-paure.jpg Philip Ball and Lee Smolin also feel uncomfortable with LIGO's ripples in spacetime gloriously traveling at the speed of light: Philip Ball: "And by making the clock's tick relative - what happens simultaneously for one observer might seem sequential to another - Einstein's theory of special relativity not only destroyed any notion of absolute time but made time equivalent to a dimension in space: the future is already out there waiting for us; we just can't see it until we get there. This view is a logical and metaphysical dead end, says Smolin." http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2013...reality-review "Was Einstein wrong? At least in his understanding of time, Smolin argues, the great theorist of relativity was dead wrong. What is worse, by firmly enshrining his error in scientific orthodoxy, Einstein trapped his successors in insoluble dilemmas..." https://www.amazon.com/Time-Reborn-C.../dp/B00AEGQPFE Pentcho Valev |
