Default Golden age of the APO?

Does the world really need another $5K 3" refractor? Who are these things
being built for and why, Who is FOOLING WHOM anyway? Are they really being
produced or is just a bunch of smoke being blown up our asses by a few guys
out to make a quick buck taking orders for some scope that the joker hasn't
any intention of making for a year or two? And Why would an otherwise
sensible person lay out their hard earned or otherwise, money to purchase
on of these little boutique scopes?

When you try and figure out just who is producing these things you run into
all sorts of stonewalling and double talk, Just ask me I've tried.

Amateur astronomy is a popular hobby with the mentally ill. Only the
mentally ill are dumb enough to pay big bucks on a puny ass telescope that
is too small to see a damn thing when they could spend half and get a scope
5 times bigger.

Strange as it may seem to you he isn't posting to himself , he was posting
to me on my topic, clearly something you are unable to do.

It seems many of the people here are hung up on these relatively useless
but expensive scopes. Someone new to amateur astronomy would assume that
the only valid instrument is one of these designer boutique market
refractors.

At star parties I've watched the stuck up pricks that own these thing
yearning to show off their over priced jimcrack without having to actually
let anyone touch the blessed object.

I have a 3" overpriced (to your way of thinking) refractor. Its an old
Takahashi FC-76. The tube is scratched and worn from hundreds of hours
spent out under the night sky. I bought it second hand. Could have bought
a nice dob with that money, but I already had one of those. All the reasons
for buying a small apochromat are already in the S.A.A. archives. I think
your problem is not with the scope, but with some of the people who you've
met along the way.
