So what seems to be showing up is that the Iss needs a plumber on call.
One assumes this is Amonia. What sort of pressures are involved in these loops? Brian -- From the Sofa of Brian Gaff Reply address is active |

Must be considered quite serious then if they are going for it so soon. I
guess things do wear out, not much one can do about that. Brian -- From the Sofa of Brian Gaff Reply address is active "JF Mezei" wrote in message eb.com... From the NASA web site: Expedition 35 crew members Chris Cassidy and Tom Marshburn will go outside the station at around 8:15 a.m. EDT Saturday to inspect and possibly replace a pump controller box suspected of leaking ammonia coolant. The device contains the mechanical systems that drive the cooling functions for the station's port truss. Live spacewalk coverage begins at 7 a.m. EDT on NASA TV. |

Yes listened to it yesterday. It seems they suspect a valve inside the unit
of not always closing properly. Must be them space spiders again... grin So I wonder what all the coffee stains on the outside of the station are? Maybe clouds of some fluid in orbit that the station passes through? As for no rehearsals. I think they were quite fortunate that they had two people there who had been involved in the fitting out of that section of the station, and of course there are still people on the ground who know about this stuff. I was impressed by Mike Finks detailed knowledge and what needed to be done as well. In a few years though when a lot of these people have retired, moved on etc, will the expertise be retained? And also interesting that NASA would do this without months of rehersals. So far so good. They activated the new pump and so far, they are not seeing new snow (ammonia flakes). Controllers said that they raised the pressure a bit to make any leaks more obvious, so it does appear like the ammonia system is indeed pressurised. |
