Default Orion 80mm ED APO ...ED or Fluorite?

Hi All,

This new scope has raised quite a "stir" in the amateur community and I'm
patiently waiting for mine to arrive in the mail. I noticed on the Orion web
site that one of the optical elements in the objective is FPL-53 fluorite
glass. To my knowledge, fluorite glass and ED glass are two separate
"animals", although I can see how fluorite glass could be considered a type
of ED glass. Still, I believe most refractor enthusiasts would consider a
fluorite refractor a "step-up" from an ED refractor ....so why is this scope
being marketed as an ED refractor? Is it an ED scope or fluorite scope? Or
is it both?

Jim
