Default .965" Pocono Orthos, .965" Meridian Telescope Plossls

Hello all,

If anyone has used or does use any of the .965" Pocono orthos or the
..965" Plossls from Meridian Telescopes
http://www.meridiantelescopes.com/plossl.html , I'd be interested in
your opinions on these. I've read some of Bill Foley's posts
recommending the Pocono orthos, I did see a post on Excelcis about the
1.25" 6mm Pocono ortho being a bit soft. I have a 7mm UO classic and
it is not soft in any way, so if these little orthos are made by UO,
as was suggested, I'd hope they'd be okay.

I'm wondering about ghosting, field flatness, constrast, sharpness,
light throughput, if the view is overall has warm, cool, or
neutral/natural color tone. I might pick up one of each and see
what's what. I realize that you get what you pay for, but these might
be a good find. If I do, I'll post my results to this message.

Thanks and clear skies to all,
Kerry

Hi Kerry,
The Circle T orthos include a 12.5mm ep, while the pocono series includes a
12mm ep. Perhaps they are not the same.

The Orthos formerly sold by Pocono Mountain Optics were the ones I mentioned.
I do not know if the ones a Meridian are the same. These are NOT manufactured
by UO, which buys their Orthos from the same Japanese shop which used to supply
PMO.

Bill.

P.S. - The Pocono Optics website cited is from an archive, and the company has
been out of business for quite some time....

Bill,

So I've noticed. I thought I had read a while back that they were out
of business. I'm going to try the 6.3 and 17 mm plossls from
Meridian, ordered today. I found a 4mm Japan made ? on Astromart-$12,
the other 2 are $34 each, and a 25 Kellner is coming with a 60mm f/15
Celestron/Vixen I found, waiting for it to arrive (hopefully
tomorrow)-I can't wait to use it. There are a few clouds tonight, but
the sky seems clear & steady otherwise, it is cool outside, so I will
bring out the C102hd and see what's what. I need to get up very early
one morning to see Jupiter...Thanks for the replies, I know that you
get what you pay for, the Meridian eps are not from UO, being plossls,
but thought I would give them a try.

Thanks for your reply, Bill, and you too Ed.

Clear skies to you,
Kerry
