Hi
I would like to know from other international subscribers if they are happy with the dates on which they receive their magazines. I have subscribed through my local astronomy club but have had problems in the last year with issues being late - really late. Like now I still haven't received my September and October issues! There could be a problem with the local people doing the distributing. I am not exactly sure how the process runs but it is not good enough. Astronomy magazine deliveries run like clockwork! They always arrive a month or more ahead of time which allows me time to prepare observation sessions, etc. I am considering to not renew S&T through my club again and to just pay the extra $15 for direct delivery to me, cutting out the local people completely and hopefully getting the magazine on time! I am looking forward to hear from others. |

No problems here. I already have my November issue; got it about a week ago, I'd guess. I'm sorry to hear of your problems. trane -- //------------------------------------------------------------ // Trane Francks Tokyo, Japan // Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty. // http://mp3.com/trane_francks/ |

A few issues didn't arrive at all. S&T kindly remailed them. Now we receive it sligthly delayed, but still in time to be on the events. Clear skies, -- Beta Persei 45° 35' N 08° 51' E |

Hi Hi Victor, I would like to know from other international subscribers if they are happy with the dates on which they receive their magazines. I have no complaint as I get my issue quite early. I would estimate a month before the printed date on the front cover. I have subscribed through my local astronomy club but have had problems in the last year with issues being late - really late. Like now I still haven't received my September and October issues! I am not sure it has anything to do with your local club. There could be a problem with the local people doing the distributing. I am not exactly sure how the process runs but it is not good enough. This could be a problem. I may be wrong but European distribution I think goes through Germany judging by the label on the plastic cover. Astronomy magazine deliveries run like clockwork! They always arrive a month or more ahead of time which allows me time to prepare observation sessions, etc. My Astronomy Mag also arrives like clock-work with S&T usually arriving first. With Astronomy Magazine, I get it about 10 days before the printed date on the front cover. I am considering to not renew S&T through my club again and to just pay the extra $15 for direct delivery to me, cutting out the local people completely and hopefully getting the magazine on time! I seriously doubt if this will change things. Send an email to Pat Trenner (sp?) who is in charge of Customer Relations at S&T and see what she says. I am looking forward to hear from others. You forget to tell us where you are .... it may be a continental issue? Anthony. |

Typically, I get the issue 4-5 weeks ahead of the month appearing on
the cover. The Nov issue arrived on Sept 29. I live in Europe and I recall serious delays only following the Sept 11 event, most likely due to extra security linked to anthrax. Hari Seldon |

If I tell you that I live in South Africa, don't burst out laughing!!! That explains it ;-) but if Astronomy can be here on time, then so should S&T! -- 25° 45' S 28° 12' E |

K K same here. got November issue a week ago We use Sky & Telescope as the 'textbook' for our Recent Advances in Astronomy Seminar (oftern called Recent Astronomy Semonar) in New York. It meets on two Thursdays wach month and the second Thursday is when most of our members have the new S&T issue. So Uexpect, because the next Seminar is this coming Thursday, to have the December issue in hand by then. Because only most but not all members have the issue on the 2nd meeting of the month, we merely look it over and pick out the major articles. Then on the 1st meeting of the next month, about two weeks later, everyone has the issue and we then discuss the articles. For those members who do not get S&T, a couple of us will photocopy the articles for them. --- þ RoseReader 2.52á P005004 |

V V I am looking forward to hear from others. Your local club merely collects the subscriptions and passes them to S&T for all subsequent handling. The issues are mailed from S&T near boston, not somehow delivered by your club. So dropping the club subs for a personal one will not spped up the delivery. Incidently, you can take out a 3-yr subs for about the same amount as the club rate for single years. One thing to be careful of right now. S&T (I suppose Astronomy, too, but don't get that zine) send out renewal coupons. These at first glance seem to be for the regular personal rate, as if the club subs was a onetime offer for only the first year. If you renew with this coupon, you pay the normal rate, some $15 more than for the club rate! If you renew thru the club, jus ttear up and discard the S&T coupon. Do NOT return it (with payment) to S&T. Follow the instructins from your club for renewing, usually a tickbox on its own dues form. --- þ RoseReader 2.52á P005004 |
