Default France, Russia talk of Mars mission

Roskosmos and the ESA will face competition, as NASA is expected to go ahead with building a new generation of spacecraft capable of deep space missions, with flights into low Earth orbit outsourced to private firms following the shutdown of the U.S. space shuttle program.

But surely the problems have not been solved yet.
Radiation, long periods of no gravity, fixing broken gear,
supplies for any meaningful time on the planet.

Just to name a few. Its one of those cases where getting there is not the
problem..

It's too soon to think about going to Mars. It costs too much.

We need to focus on bringing the cost of space travel down. It currently
costs more than $10,000 to place a pound of anything into low Earth orbit.
Let's work on bringing that down to $100 per pound then we can think about
going to Mars.

this is likely the truest thing ever posted on the net.........

at 100 bucks per pound we could afford to do so much, the flight rate
would skyrocket
