Default One Stop Shopping? -- Star Catalogs

Is there a single source that pretty well describes the various star
(celestial) catalogs available in some detail. For example, no. of
objects, type of objects, region of the sky surveyed, sponsor, history,
etc. GSC, NGC, Hipparcos-Tycho, U. of Mich., ...

Thanks. Although that is the correct address, I had to get there via
Google and wikipedia. It may be the link needs around it, which is
usually for keeping long links from inserting a CR into the URL.

More likely, it's because the url (for some reason) is case sensitive.

Why not go to it via the link from CDS:

http://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/

There is a direct link to Catalogs there, though it seems pretty slow at the
moment.

Try this. There are local copies in most regions, esp useful if you
actually want to download a whole catalogue, in, e.g., ASCII.

That, and it's spelled "cgi" not "viz"
