I've rec'd quite a few today too. Viruses have really been running rampant the
past month or so.

I'm very vigilant about updating my AV but last week my system crashed. The
Microsoft tech (who I had to call as I had a problem re-installing) figured I
had a virus. But then _what else_ would he say caused it?

I've had almost 2000 in 24 hours.... all go into my trash automatically.
Hopefully the perpetrators will get clamped down and ousted in the VERY
near future...

This particular attack ranges far wider than just your e-mail address
and this newsgroup.

See http://www.atnewyork.com/news/article.php/3080001

and also for further information, the W32.Swen.A@mm entry on Symantec's
security response virus information page at

Florian--

yeah, i've been flooded, too. i've e-mailed yahoo and asked them to check
their systems--their Norton AV reports the e-mail as not infected. i know
better. i'm surprise that my usual attack warning sites (zdnet and cnet)
are still mum on this (except for one article saying something might happen
with swen.a).

clear, dark skies--

I've been getting a bunch of those too. Webby boxes are immune to
damage from viruses, but they can sure fill up my mailbox. ANNOYING...

I'll lay odds on it being W32.Swen.A@mm

Yes, i think you're right. Here's the Symantec page on it...

That's why I use a bogus email address for newsgroups. I never get
spam/viruses.

Several hundred with W32.Swen.A@mm here in the last couple days but it's
slowed down to a trickle today. I just changed the address I'm using on
this newsgroup (the only one I'm currently following) a couple weeks
ago! If it had been the old forwarding address I'd have just changed
it. Oh well, I've added "nospam" into the middle of it for the future.
I recall something about a horse and a barn door...

The email address i use for newsgroups is only used for that purpose so =
i don't really care if it gets spammed. I had 72 emails this morning and =
it stayed at 72 all day. Then i used a mass delete to clear them all =
from the server. Now they're coming in again. I guess they had stopped =
because my mail server was full. I think i'll just let it fill up and =
not delete them this time.
