![]() Passage of Earth through the solar wind neutral sheet on the 16th produced some auroral activity seen in the northern tier of states in the US and in Northern Europe now (1900 UT). There should be continued activity tonight (9/17), and on the 18th, tapering off by the weekend. Ref: http://spaceweather.com/ AURORA WATCH: The auroras were so bright in Canada last night they shined through the trees like headlights from a car. Photographer Danief Tariff took this remarkable picture from Quebec, which experienced a strong geomagnetic storm. Conditions are favorable for more geomagnetic activity tonight. Sky watchers in Canada, Alaska and northern US states such as Wisconsin, Michigan and Washington should be alert for auroras after nightfall. --Sam Wormley http://edu-observatory.org/eo/aurora.html |
