Pop-up SBL capability?
"George Orwell" wrote in message ... http://www.spaceflightnow.com/atlas/...0402x37update/ NASA seems to be very interested in the results of the mini-OSP (orbital space plane) but I'm not sure exactly why. The X37B is simply a mini Space Shuttle and not much knowledge can be gained from it that they couldn't get from Shuttle flights. I even have my doubts if it's of any practical use to the Air Force since this launch has taken months to prepare, not something you would want for a rapid deployment asset. The Air Force is mum on both the cost (probably around $1 billion) and the possible uses for this craft, but I personally believe they're limited. The Air Force claims that the X-37B will allow them to retrieve stuff from space, but I can't imagine what they'd want snatch out of orbit, aside from some old Soviet space junk. The money wasted on X-37B would have been better spent buying a couple dozen Falcon 1 / 1e's or even a few Falcon 9's IMHO.
