My article in the NYSkies website about the final Pleiades
occultation may be misleading to some readers far from New York. It's at 'www.nyskies.org/articles/pazmino/plei-occ.txt'. When I began this piece in November it was for City astronomers. Yes, for them this December 28th occultation IS the last one for the next 14 years. I elaborated the article over the next weeks, until the latest revision of December 6. Note that, largely from requests from you readers, I keep the initial date in the article's head and bump up only the currernt date. Because the website is open for worldwide readers, some readers offered that in their towns the Pleiades occultations already ended for this current round. Others noted that there are a couple more events before their season ends. Both comments can be true! You must get Pleiades predictions for your town because an occultation is sensitive to local circumstances. What happens in New York may not prevail elsewhere. The article is, on the other, lauded for its technical details and it attracted almost a thousand hits since it was first hung in mid November. However, you must apply its procedures to your own site. |
