I am thinking of buying a pair of these secondhand. Would anybody care
to share their experience with these bins? In particular I am concerned about the durability and fragility of the image stabilisation mechanism & electronics, given that these bins have been out for 2-3 years now. Has anyone had any problems? My intended use for these would be for long-distance outdoor use, birdwatching and the like, with some casual astronomy use thrown in. I already own 8x42 and 10x42 bins so these wouldn't be my primary birding bins. Anyone use the 15x models for birding? Other concerns I have with these include narrow FOV making it difficult to acquire targets, eye relief when wearing glasses, and inter-pupillary distance. I find that many modern bins don't have a minimum IP distance sufficient for me to quite merge the 2 barrels. Haven't yet had a chance to try the Canons out. |

[SNIP] Sydney, We got a pair when they were discontinuing them in favor of the 15x50s and 18x50s. I think it was about three years ago. They have been fine and a pleasure to use, but we had an accident with them a few weeks ago. They got knocked off a kitchen counter onto a linoleum floor. This knocked them out of collimation. However, I think you'd be pretty lucky if any binocular survived without damage. Clear skies, Alan |

Likely something he http://www.weatherman.com/binocs.htm Phil Hi Phil, Thanks for the suggestion. However, I should have mentioned that I already checked out Todd Gross's review, as well as those at Better View Desired, Cloudy Nights & Excelsis and also did a Google search. If you know of any other reviews, please bring them to my attention. SG |
