According to many witnesses, more likely it was an EMP blast to scare the
sheeple. Check out HAARP, it worked fine on the Columbia Shuttle...This story of a "lightning strike" taking down the grid is pure horse**** according to investigative journalist Jim Rappaport, after he checked with many engineers about that possibility...Amazing how fast the claim "it's not terrorism" (within 5 minutes of the blackout, how could they possibly know that fast, unless this whole thing was planned?.) This, along with the political demands for rebuilding the power grid that came out (at a cost of hundreds of billions of dollars that the American people will gladly pay for, because,we are, after all, the dumbest mother****ers on the planet, politically speaking).... Lest we forget we have JR Ewing in the Whitehouse, it's the same old ploy...Remember the recent gas crisis? Gas was a buck or so a gallon, shot up way over 2 bucks a gallon, after people got the message , it was rolled back to~ $1.60, and people are all too glad to pay it. Same game plan for the power companies. Two sides of the same coin... Orion "John Steinberg" wrote in message ... Much to the displeasure of some, I'm sure. Where to begin? Ahh, yes, the teeming masses of humanity marching home, down from the darkened steps of a thousand office buildings, across the avenues and streets like a Hollywood version of 9/11. No, that won't do. There was some modest panic and fear, sure, but mostly resigned indifference to the limits and our reliance on technology. No, I hate that. Scratch that. People were cranky, but this is NY, we come out of the womb extra cranky. Okay, how about thanks to the Canucks for really hosing up the power grid? No, that's still speculative at this point. Although I know they're responsible. Canada has more donut shops per capita than any nation on earth. Why? I don't know! And thinking about it makes my head hurt. Perhaps it was the latest MS worm? Yes, Bill Gates and his minions were responsible. No, surely Homeland Security would have been on top of that like white on rice. Still, Balmer could probably use a few months in Guantanamo just to lose some of that baby fat. Even without much lighting, it seemed to take forever for the sky to darken, and even by 10 PM EDT it was a helluva lot brighter and bluer than the hulking steel skyscrapers. Ahh, the Moon. Loved and loathed by many. No, that really doesn't do justice to the otherworldly scene of humanity humping home, dozing on steps, on the streets outside their hotels. No, you can probably see all of that on TV. Traffic even in the outlying areas was *interesting*. With most traffic signals dark you had to be unusually aggressive to get anywhere. Although, it wasn't any worse than LA on an average day. One of my siblings just flew out of Newark Airport yesterday. Just now called me from Hermosa Beach to check in, and to gloat a bit. I'm gonna smack that $%^&* up when she gets back (pop culture Prodigy reference, likely not for you.) My heart goes out to those stuck on the subways. Yesterday was hot, and underground there's a stickiness factor that far exceeds anything at street level anyway. And the poor folks stuck between floors on elevators. That happened to me once, in another part of the world, and it isn't a life highlight. My home has a 15 KW gen set so we felt no personal pain, but I spent much of the night driving around to some of the people I work with as a volunteer. Power came back to some parts of NY and NJ within a couple or three hours so I could gas up and get some provisions for those a bit unnerved by events. Some took it in stride, others were just grateful for a familiar face and comforting word and some snacks and cold water. Mars was a beacon most of the night. Didn't have time to do any observing, but for all you might imagine a blackout in an area as vast as was impacted, I don't think it was even one tenth the opportunity it might have been. Hopefully some folks have a different perspective. Another hot one in store for today. I'm off to the water and hope those of you still without power are getting along okay. Incidentally, if any of you responsible Canucks are reading this, kindly make this happen next time with some advance notice to the astronomy community and try to do it on a new moon night, eh? -- -John Steinberg email: lid ...And that, my liege, is how we know the Earth to be banana-shaped. --Sir Bedevere --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I survived, too....and enjoyed watching it on TV in the air 'ditioning. Living
in the South-land has its advantages. Now if I ever have to go through something like that , I'll just fire up the ol' FlashFart Home Fusion Reactor and sit back and relax. |

Thanks for the Daily chuckle. I love all these conspiracy theories that
various peole are putting out. Oh, and the reason Canada has so many donut shops? Same reason a dog can lick its nuts......because we can (have all those donut shops, I mean). It actually could turn out that it was nobody's fault....the power grid
failure.....perhaps simple overload on the generation side, as opposed to the useage side. As everyone is so greedy to sell us all their electrical power!! As I understand it, there are no laws that prohibit these electrical power stations to feed in just as much electrical power as they want to, even to the point of massive overload. (just an observation). FWIW Tom W. Chris Knight wrote: Thanks for the Daily chuckle. I love all these conspiracy theories that various peole are putting out. Exactly, which lines up nicely with report in the Ohio are of cars going
dead, car radios and clocks freakin... How is that possible unless it is EMP? Orion "Alan Speer" wrote in message m... An EMP burst? Yeah, right. My mistake,
The guy's name is Jon Rappoport. Here is his site: http://www.nomorefakenews.com Here is his quick bio: Jon Rappoport has worked as an investigative reporter for 20 years, and is the author of five books. He has written on medical fraud, deep politics, and health issues for newspapers and magazines in the US and Europe, including CBS Healthwatch, Spin, Stern and LA Weekly. The LA Weekly placed Jon's name in nomination for a Pulitzer Prize, for his interview with the president of Salvador University, where a military takeover had occurred. Not that I think any of the critical thinkers on this group will even bother to read this for themselves...most people hate pardigm shifts... orion --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Did you know that only way to currently produce an EMP burst is to detonate a nuke? That would be noticed big time. Tom |
