Curious, is not a true APO because it only has two lenses instead of three?

Thanks

It's not a true APO, just ED!

But maybe it's worth a shot...

It's 24" (600mm) long at f7.5 + dew shield, so not a pocket scope, like the
Pronto or the Sky 90(14"). Price is very attractive, quality ? , has to
look through it, to find out. It may varies. I bought my Pronto for $500
used and the Apogee 80mm ED is very close to that price on the used market.

This is what the important part of what catalog says:

"It sports a fully multi-coated 80mm objective lens doublet, one element of
which is crafted from Extra-Low Dispersion, or “ED” optical glass. This
high-grade glass greatly reduces the chromatic aberration inherent in standard
achromats. Images appear more sharply focused and color fringing around bright
objects is lessened dramatically. "

This does not sound like a description of a true APO scope to me, especially
when you consider this is a 80mm F7.5 scope. They are leaving themselves
plenty of room on this one. Looks to me like the advertising department got
out in front of the engineering department.....

My guess, and only a guess, is this:

Compared to the ST-80's and even the SV AT1010's this scope will have somewhat
less false color. A good part of this will be simply due to the longer focal
ratio, and some due to the ED glass.

Probably more like a Pronto or Ranger than a TV-85.

It would kind of fun to buy one of these and send it to Valery Deryuzhin and
ask him to test it.

Anybody want to start a fund???? g

I'll bet you'll see a 100mm before years end.If these perform as advertised
looks like the big boys might be in for some competition.I've been thinking
about an APO to go along with my Starmaster.Great time to be an amateur
astronomer!-Vic

Better time to keep your wallet in your pocket. Read that description on the
website one more time, that is not a description of APO performance.....
