When setting up a GOTO scope, you go through an alignment process. I have
an ETX-90; I assume the alignment is similar for all GOTO scopes -- point it north, level it, tell the scope the date, time, location, etc. Tonight, I went through four alignments then told the scope to GOTO the moon. Not even close. Missed the half-moon by many, many degrees in alt and az. How can this scope be so &^%$#$^%^ dumb -- I mean, there's the moon, how can it miss? Turned it off, back on, aligned, same result. $#@$%^&^%% scope. On alignment #5 I realized that setting the date requires setting the day, month, AND YEAR. 5 August 2000 is not the same as 5 August 2003. I apologized to the scope for calling it names and disparaging its ancestors. -- ---- Joe S. |

If it hadn't been drunk and passed out on the floor at all those New Year's Eve parties, it would know what year it was. We were all there, we saw it...really now! Cheers (except for a certain ETX, I think its had enough), Shawn |
