Default Bye-bye Moonbase and hello more Shuttle flights?

As a follow-up to downsizing the Orion crew, are things now about to get
even more Apollo-clone like?:

I seriously doubt that NASA can get funds for a manned Mars flight, so
this could be another nail in the coffin for the whole VSE program.
Meanwhile, is the Shuttle's life about to be extended?:
