Default Hope for life?

I'm developing new materials I'll place into my Adra editorial pages
(http://www.mhada.info), and along the way, some of it grew up into an
unexpected idea. Today, our human impact upon Terra is severely
destructive. All the living things on this world can look at us humans
with awe and fear for so much we have destroyed and a little that we
have accomplished. Surprise: that can all change. Our presence here
gives us a terribly heavy responsibility if we can take it up.

Astronomical science and social science, taken jointly, show that sooner
or later our Terra will be destroyed. A passing black hole, perhaps, or
some ideological nut job applies powerful technologies to "purify" the
place. We can't foresee the date of this final catastrophe. (I'm not
referring here to religious / ideological mythology.)

But, as I look out my window I see life -- a lot of life -- and the only
hope that life has for any extended future is ...us humans. And we are
this same species that is so troubling our world now, fouling our nest.
If we can extend our species, culture, and business ecology off this
local Terra, and bring other life with us as we do it, that other Terran
life may have an extended future. Else, it doesn't.

I'm surprised by this thinking because it seems to be so; *it's true.*
This is Diety business, but none of us humans is or approximates any
Diety. So here I am working to digest this very large idea and thinking
about where I want to go with it.
