Default Chandrasekhar's book on stellar structure

I'm reading and enjoying S.Chandrasekhar's book on stellar structure (Dover).
I just finished the chapter on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram and noted that
at the time he wrote the book (around 1939) there was no good theory of
the transmutation reactions taking place inside the star. I was just wondering
what I should read that would bring the material in that chapter up to date,
if not the book itself.

Ignorantly,
Allan Adler

"AA" == Allan Adler writes:

In addition to the BBFH paper reference that's been posted already,
try Clayton, _Principles of Stellar Evolution and Nucleosynthesis_.

And available online, there's Virginia Trimble's review "The origin
and abundances of the chemical elements" from Rev Mod Phys 47, 877 (1975)
available at
http://prola.aps.org/abstract/RMP/v47/i4/p877_1
She did a 1991 update in A&A Reviews, as well.

Hmm. Some of these citations are following Virginia's own dictum that
the end of the "classical era" in any field tends to coincide
with an author's years in grad school.
