I think I got it this week!
http://www.rdcrisp.darkhorizons.org/Hewett1_page.htm be sure to look at page 5 and 6 of the presentation below: http://www.rdcrisp.darkhorizons.org/...uest_crisp.pdf Unfortunately the long exposure with the fast camera and the moony sky gave me a hot center that will not flatfield out, but I think that the image is in there nonetheless, albeit the image not having a lot of aesthetic value. I believe this is the first reported image of the entire object and the first taken by an amateur. This is the largest planetary nebula in the sky, estimated to be more than 2 degrees in diameter. The discovery was first reported on November 4, 2003. http://www.rdcrisp.darkhorizons.org/images/0311087.pdf Please note the correspondence from Paul Hewett included at the bottom of the webpage on the first link. I expect to be shooting more images of it as the weather permits. Best regards Richard Crisp |
